Self-paced and online course: The Science and Business of Biotechnology
May 14 - Dec 31
Dear ACGT community
The ACGT is evaluating the enrolment of partner institutions’ postgraduate students and faculty in self-paced, online courses presented by world-leading experts in the field of biotechnology. For the time being, we will not be allowed to bring the trainers to our facilities for hands-on courses, as per our normal approach. We have been in contact with edX, specifically to enquire about purchasing access codes for the self-paced online course “The Science and Business of Biotechnology”. The course is facilitated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and will add complementary financial and business skills for those interested in personal development of such.
The course will include:
- Basic financial analysis for the life-sciences professional
- The historical financial risks and returns of the biopharma industry
- Capital budgeting for pharmaceutical companies
- Drug development and clinical trials
- The mechanics of biotech startup financing
- Biomedical megafunds and drug royalty investment companies
- Healthcare analytics and machine learning
- Pricing, value, and ethics.

The online course is projected to take 16 weeks to complete, with between 10 and 12 hours per week required. The course starts on the day of your enrolment, after receiving the license code. However, as this is a self-paced course, extensions are granted for completion.
The ACGT is happy to cover the costs for the course certification (required for assessments and confirmation of completion), as well as handling administration and communication with edX for all interested ACGT postgraduate students and faculty members.
We require you to indicate your interest, and willingness to complete the course, at your earliest convenience. Kindly indicate your interest to undertake the course here:
With best wishes during unusual circumstances.
