4th Regional Plant Biotechnology Forum
Venue: ARC- Head Office (1134 Park Street, Hatfield), Pretoria
The ACGT and ARC will be hosting the next installment of the sucessfull
Regional Plant Biotechnology Fora on the 20th
of October 2011 at the Agricultural Research Council’s head office in
Pretoria. The forum will be held at the ARC’s auditorium (1134 Park
Street, Hatfield) which is located a short walking distance from the
Hatfield Gautrain Station. The programme includes scientific
presentations as well as an introductory presentation on the ARC's new
proteomics research and services unit.

Synthetic Biology Forum
Venue: CSIR- Knowledge Commons, Pretoria
The ACGT and CSIR will be hosting a Synthetic Biology Forum on the 24th
of August 2011. The programme includes presentations on the South
African BioDesign
Initiative, iGEM and the current synthetic biology initiatives at CSIR
and WITS. The keynote address will be given by Prof Julian Kinderlerer
on the ethical issues of synthetic biology. The event is generously
sponsored by Inqaba Biotec.

3rd Regional Plant Biotechnology Forum
The next instalment of the successful ACGT Regional Plant Biotechnology
Fora will be hosted by the CSIR on the 25th of March, 2011, in the DST
Auditorium. The programme will include scientific presentations, as
well as a strong focus on “omics” facilities in the ACGT partnership.

Taverna Workshop,
ACGT partners CSIR and the University of Pretoria will be hosting a
Taverna workshop on the 14th March 2011. This follows on from an
NRF-funded UK-SA bilateral visit by Prof Jane Morris to the University
of Manchester in May 2010. We would like to invite you to view a live
stream of the workshop on 14 March 2011. The event will include
presentations around Taverna, myExperiment and BioCatalogue, among
other tools, and their use in scientific domains such as biology and

POL SABINA/SABINA 3rd Review Meeting and Training Workshop,
The POL SABINA/SABINA projects, funded by the European Union
Africa-Caribbean-Pacific (EU-ACP) programme and the Carnegie
Corporation respectively, will hold their 3rd Review Meeting and
Training Workshop in Windhoek, Namibia from the 21st to the 25th of
February 2011. The event will include training in grant proposal and
scientific writing, student progress reports and networking. This
workshop is only open to POL SABINA/SABINA staff and students.
